Alex's Approach
Alex coaches from a strengths-based perspective; he takes it as an article of faith that:
-
at any given moment, you are doing the best you can in parenting your teen or young adult
-
your heart is always in the right place
-
you bring many gifts to the parenting enterprise
-
your mistakes are instructive, and the setbacks you encounter hold promise
Alex’s approach is also heavily influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), a therapeutic modality that cultivates flexibility and resilience and paves the way for living a more authentic and fulfilling life. As the name suggests, ACT teaches people how to accept what they can't control, and to commit to taking action in support of the core values that give their life meaning. The process may sound nebulous, but at its core, ACT is a very practical system that, as research shows, yields powerful results quickly.
